CHILDREN, OUR FUTURE OF THE WORLD

“There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.”

– Nelson Mandela –

Children, our future and legacy

All human being life begins by being born – live – all human being die. Our lives are not endless, we are finite, our journey started and ended in a flashing life cycle. When we come to our ends, what do we leave behind? What are our legacies to the world? In the big picture, our children will be the most valuable legacy. They will soon become the lead generation of the world who need proper care and preparation in the present. Despite dramatic improvements in survival, nutrition, and education over recent decades, climate change, ecological degradation, migrating populations, conflict, pervasive inequalities, and predatory commercial practices threaten the health and future of children in every country. Today, every countries, organizations, and family give their best to build a better future world for our children. Every year, we spend a special day for all kids around the world on the 1st of June, International Children’s Day. [/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner]

When is International children’s day celebrated?

Universally, International Children’s day is celebrated on the 1st of June. However, there are many special days for children in different countries. For example, children’s day is marked on 20 November, but it is celebrated on 14 November in India. In Japan, the Japanese observe Children’s Day as a national holiday on May 5th every year, the fifth day of the fifth month. Children’s Day is also celebrated on April 23rd in Turkey and on July 24th every year in Vanuatu.

What is the history of International Children’s day?

The origin of this holiday goes back to 1925 when representatives from different countries met in Geneva, Switzerland to convene the first “World Conference for the Wellbeing of Children”. After the conference, some governments around the world designated a day as Children’s Day to highlight children’s issues. There was no specific date recommended, so countries used whatever date was most relevant to their culture.

The date of June 1st is used by many ex-Soviet countries as ‘The International Day for Protection of Children’ was established on 1 June 1950 following the Women’s International Democratic Federation’s congress in Moscow that took place in 1949. With the creation of the International Children’s Day, UN member states recognized children, regardless of race, color, sex, religion, and national or social origin, the right to affection, love, understanding, adequate food, medical care, free education, protection against all forms of exploitation and growing in a climate of universal peace and brotherhood.

How do we celebrate children’s day?

Explain Children’s Day

Children are blank paper who need careful guidance from their parents, families, and teachers. It is important that they are explained about Children’s Day and get excited about it. Children can understand Christmas, New Year, and other special occasions in the year. However, they might not know the special day that is designed especially for them. Take a few minutes to explain that Children’s Day is designed to honor all the children of the world, and bring them joy and excitement for an upcoming event. [/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner]

Let children choose what to do

It is children’s day, so it is important that all events are created in their interest. Many parents, especially in Asia, tend to impose their thought on their kids. Despite the fact that children are too young to know what they want and what is good for them, it is the parents’ duty to direct them to their suitable paths. In children’s day every year, a unique theme is designed around the wellness of the children such as staying healthy, expressing yourself, promoting unity, etc. It is important to have a conversation with children and explain to them the meaning behind each theme and how the activities are related to it. By doing it, your children will feel a strong connection to the event, and effectively learn the meaning behind it.

Choose activities related to the theme

Now, it comes to the fundamental part, picking up the best activities for your kids. There are no rules or requirements when it comes to celebrating Children’s Day. You can choose to celebrate however you’d like. You can even ignore the theme altogether if you want. However, selecting activities based on the theme will help your child understand the value of the holiday and its underlying purpose.
